Yes! In fact, it’s advised to use this product on drywall in your bathroom before laying tile and other materials. Installing Kerdi on your drywall provides protection against rot, mildew and mold growth. When Kerdi is installed properly, it can serve as an incredibly effective waterproofing layer.

Do I need a vapor barrier behind KERDI?
Kerdi is the vapor barrier, there is no need for anything behind it. Kerdi can even be installed over drywall. Cement board and grout are not water proof, if there’s Kerdi no moisture is ever going to be able to get behind it.

It is not necessary to tape the joints between drywall panels before installing KERDI. If you must tape the joints per fire code requirements, make sure to apply a latex primer over the taped joints before installing KERDI.

What kind of Screws do I need for Kerdi shower?
Screw drywall to the studs using acceptable building code screw spacing and screw length, we used 1-5/8″ coarse threaded screws. Once the drywall is installed the next step is to dry fit the shower tray, cut it to size, and dry fit the shower drain. Keep in mind the shower tray can be cut to size within reason.
